Sorbonne University is one of the oldest universities in Europe. University was founded in the middle of the 12th century but was officially recognized as a university in the period between 1160-1250. The University has more than 100 research institutes, centers, higher schools, 35 libraries, and more than 300 thousand students from different parts of the world. In 1968, after the student revolution in France, the university was closed for already two years, after which in 1970 it was reorganized, splitted into 13 autonomous universities, each of which today has its separate names. Among the most famous students of the University of Paris were chemists and Nobel Prize laureates Pierre and Marie Curie.
